How to Build Muscle Fast: The Effects of Alcohol on Building Muscle Mass

The Effects of Alcohol on Building Muscle Mass

If your goal is to build muscle mass fast then you should be aware of the negative effects that alcohol can have on you and your goals.

When alcohol is consumed it is proven that it becomes the preferred energy source and can suppress the utilization of body fat as energy. That sucks for those looking to lose fat.

Alcohol provides 7 calories per gram. So you're getting a lot of empty calories that just are not used for building muscle mass. Alcohol calories will promote fat storage as well as reduce your body’s ability to utilize protein, vitamins and minerals essential for building muscle mass.

For those reasons, if you're trying to shed fat and get cut and build muscle you should greatly limit your consumption of alcohol if not drop it altogether.

When you drink, there are hormonal changes that occur within your body that have a negative impact on building muscle. One such impact is the reduction of testosterone in your blood and another is the increased conversion of testosterone to estrogen resulting in the elevation of estrogen that leads to increased body fat levels, gynecomastia (man boobs) and water weight.

Alcohol also acts as a diuretic which leads to another negative effect of alcohol because it can deplete nutrients that are critical to muscle growth. This includes the depletion of magnesium, potassium, and calcium. This can also impair protein synthesis as well as your immune system. Alcohol also depresses the central nervous system, impairing strength and mental capacities. In a study done by the American Journal of Clinical Research they concluded that just a mere 24g of alcohol consumption showed the rate at which your body burns fat decreased by a whopping 73%! So I guess that is why a lot of heavy beer drinkers have beer belly’s. This is not because they get a lot of extra calories its just that your body uses the alcohol as energy instead of your fat!!! So if you are serious about building muscle and getting in shape and getting a ripped six pack you need to cut out the alcohol altogether!!!!
